Using all of your senses, primarily without judgment. Say you go out to a park : What sounds do you hear? What cloud formations, fauna, animals, colors of the day do you perceive.
How does a tree trunk feel? What is its' texture? The texture of thistle, thorns from roses. What variety of birds, other creatures, insects do you notice. What do you feel as you stroke a hand across the warm, or dry, or voluminous, or wet, or prickly, etc., grass?
What does the rain feel like, the sun, the cold, the heat?
How does it sound like hearing all kinds of voices within that space.
What sound does your own voice make.
Is there a pond there. What colors are reflected. From what sources. Movements within it?
How grey is the rain? How melancholy does it look or feel on your skin.
How warm or intense is the sun? How yellow, Orange, Red, White?
How does it make your flesh your emotions respond.
Is there sand there. Look at the multi-color bounty of its minute particles.
How does the sand feel to your hands, feet, face, whole body if you lie upon it?
Well, these are just a few imagination-honing exercises within one space as a park. An open space to boot!
With everything else you experience, experience as much' as you'd wish to gather from, in order to expand the often self-limited imagination.
Even if it is a trash dump!

People should consider that there mind will respond the same way that your muscles do. With proper care and exercise it will grow and perform better.
Visualization is very important. Start to completely see what you are going to do before you do it.There are many techniques for this, to many to go into here. I would suggest investigating visualization practices.
