There is no known link between oral contraceptives and infertility. It used to be THOUGHT that there was, but that may very well have been a rumor started to ward people off of taking the pill (and, in theory, from having sex).

There are different side effects from birth control methods. Smoking is a big no-no on the pill, because it can lead to blood clots.

I'm not sure about not being able to have kids, but I have known women who were taking the pill for many years, including myself, and then had a hard time getting pregnant. No birthcontrol is as safe as abstinence. Each has it's side effects. At one time I preferred the IUD. It will be in place for 4 years, but I'm not sure they still do that.

well some birthcontrol can pervent your girlfriend to ever have kids. but if she is going in to see a doctor she should ask if she could be put on a birthcontrol that will not pervent her from having kids. i was on birthcontrol when i first met my husband. i had told the doctor that i was going to be willing to be put on birthcontrol but i didnt want to be pervent from having kids and if there was not a birthcontrol that could promise me that i was not going to be put on it. but there is some birthcontrols that will not pervent her from having kids later down the road.
