Congratulations!

Start by figuring out where you're going to hold the wedding (his town or yours). Then you can go about picking a venue for the wedding and for the reception (might be two different places if you're planning on getting married in a church). Then call them and find out which dates they have free. August is a pretty busy month for weddings, so you might have to call a few places before you find something that's free and available. You might also have to change the dates around a bit. Once you have a place, start looking for an officiant. If it's at a church, odds are, they'll do the ceremony, too, but if it's at a hall or something, you'll need to find someone who will travel to the place. Then find a photographer and a DJ if you want one. These two businesses always get booked out fairly quickly during wedding season.

Once you have those details set, you have to worry about invites, catering for the reception, clothing, decor, rings, getting a license, etc.

It's doable. You just have to make sure that you get the big things done now, like the halls and the food and the clothing.

Good luck!

Edit: Also, if you've got a date set in your mind, then maybe try changing the times around - have an early morning wedding or a night wedding, and see if the venues will allow that. That way, you could still get the places you might want and photographers might be free of bookings.

I am also getting married in August. I started with a budget. You have to know how much money you will have before you start looking and buying. You don't want to commit to something that will end up taking the majority of your budget. If money is no object, or not such a big deal, then I would start writing down ideas of your 'dream wedding'. Get a firm picture in your mind of how you would like it to look, and then try to get it as close to that as you can. It's a really good idea to book things like caterer, photographer, location, etc asap. I would also go dress shopping as soon as your budget is set. If you need help with budgeting, you can go to www.theknot.com. They have a budgeter where all you have to do is put in the amount you have to spend on everything, and it will tell you how much you can spend on each item. It's helped me alot! Good luck!

I'm doing the same thing but with much less time and lots more distance(another country). Now is an important time for the two of you to work together and trust each others judgement. First, find the place to get married and the person living there can handle all those arrangements. I've only seen pics of my wedding place but I trust my fiancee. From there, decide(usually based on geography) who will pick the music, food, decor, cake, etc. It is very stressful but communication goes a long way here. Things may not go as perfect as you hoped, but trust that it all will be perfect for the two of you. Congrats and good luck. Don't stress!

The first thing to do is see if you can get a venue and caterer. That might change the date for you.

I think that the weddings are nice even in your backyard, if you have one. My mom had her wedding in the backyard and it was very nice
