First of all I just want to commend you for your selflessness in considering doing this for your friend, my husband and I may have a child through surrogacy someday so it is always nice to see people helping each other in such a personal way. Ok, as for your question, I honestly don't know about Canada, but I believe in general if the intended parents (your friends) find a willing surrogate personally known to them ( as they would have if you agree) they are not quite as strict about some of the screenings. Of course the medical part would still be necessary to make sure you are healthy to carry a child to term. It may also depend on whether you are a gestational carrier (you are implanted with an embryo which was fertilized by your friends egg & sperm) or a genetic carrier, in which it is your egg which will be fertilized in some manner. In the case of the latter some additional genetic screenings may be involved. Good luck, I wish the best for all of you as you consider this decision.
