The "essentials" were spelled out in the Nicene Creed. The Church, filled with the Holy Ghost and as the Body of Christ when she meets in Ecumenical Council has the right to determine those essentials. That's what the Creeds of Christendom are all about.

Since the Nicene Creed says that we believe that Jesus was "born of the Virgin Mary" - and that he is "very God of very God" - yes - those are essential.

There are Christians who have faith in the Virgin Mary and others who don't, but an essential aspect of Christianity is to believe Jesus was divine.

Faith....... as in that Mary is divine or that we should pray to her? No that is a concept foreign to the Bible (i.e. un-Biblical). Faith that she was a virgin when she conceived Christ - yes. Faith that she was perpetually a virgin - no. She later had Jesus' brother James so unless God impregnated her again (which he did not) then she was not a virgin throughout her life

No I don't think a Christian can believe Jesus was not divine, but I do not think they NEED to accept the Trinity. They just need to accept the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, but not that the three are the same being.

Faith in the Virgin Mary is essential to Catholicism, not Christianity. A Christian must believe that Jesus is divine, the word "Christ" being the operative; Jesus the Christ.

1) No. Jesus is the ONLY Way, Truth and Light. Mary was a mortal woman. Her "immaculate conception and accession" are not Biblical in the least. We are to put our faith in God alone. The Bible says there is only ONE mediator between the Father and man and that is Jesus Christ.

2) I don't believe you can be a true Christian and deny the deity of Christ. It is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. If Jesus is not divine, then He could not atone for sin.

Most early Christians didn't believe that Jesus was divine: They believed he was divinely inspired, perhaps even the Messiah but he was not God or equal to God. That was introduced later. Additionaly, Virgin Mary has taken on differing levels of signifigance throughout the history of Christianity but "faith" in the virgin may constitute idolatry.

There are three essential aspects of Christianity which are Faith, Hope and Love. To accept Christ is to become a Christian, and the perfect knowledge that He is Divine is part of the love we accept Christ with. The Holy Virgin is His Mother, and He gave her to us to be our own Mother from His Cross. He did this so that we should have both a perfect Father and a perfect Mother. Is that Love? Then why distrust the beautiful truths which you have been given? It is for this cause that we have hope in Him, that he died for our sins and rose from the dead, to reign as High Priest in the Eternal Covenant with God forever. Therefore our Faith teaches us that He gave us models that we might become like Him.

For God so loved the world that He gave us His Only Begotten Son. For Jesus so loved the world, He gave us his own immaculate mother. Ave Maria, the woman clothed with the sun. Rev 12:1 And it says: I, John, saw these things. And you know that my witness is true.

Faith that Mary was a virgin is a fundamental belief, without it the case for the divinity of Jesus doesn't have much weight.

Faith in the virgin Mary? In the sense that she was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus, yes.... The only thing that you have to believe to become christian is the fact that Jesus Christ died for your sins and was resurrected 3days later with the keys of life and death in his hands.... if you dint believe he is (or was I guess) divine, then you eliminate the fact that he was not just a sacrifice but a perfect sacrifice. If you choose not to believe in the trinity then, it does not mean your not christian... but I would do alot of praying on that subject and of course alot of contemplation... May the mercy of our heavenly Father rest upon you forever.

Christians only have faith in God. Mary was the most blessed woman but was still only a woman. A Christian isn't a Christian if they don't believe what Jesus said, that he is God.
