A boil is an inflammation of the hair follicle which accumulates pus and dead tissue. A cyst is actual a small area often enclosed by a membrane, think like a cell. Often they come about not to infection but just because. They are dangerous because the swell and apply pressure to nearby tissue. They can be filled with air, fluids, or semi solid material. If it is filled with pus it is considered and abscess. Definitely sounds painful, good luck!
