If that's the case, I'm marrying the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I'm sick of doing all the cooking.

I think you can look at the conversation in context of your age, and the relationship of you and your teacher.
You are young.
You are presumably curious, as are the other students, as kids always are....
You ask an innocent questions, and like everyone else had asked their question that day...
And the teacher addressed it in a simplified way that you would understand, and then moved on to the topic at hand.
It sounds like an easy way to explain using things you already understood at the time. Your mom wears a wedding ring because she is your dad's wife...instead of giving her life to a man as her husband, she gave her life to God and God the person...is Jesus...so in a way...she was married to Jesus, with vows and everything.
In the Bible, you also hear about a man is to love his wife as Christ loves his church...so there is another connection.

Well first nuns make the decision to take on this life. Second Jesus is not an imaginary person, He is a live person and the person of the trinity. So think before you say because you sound rather ignorant in your statement.

yes you can legally marry Jesus, I read an article about a woman who did. But Jesus isn't imaginary, he existed. There are historical accounts of him. It's whether he's the "son of god" or not that's the religious, uh, controversy.

You KNOW. . . that a person can NOT really marry Jesus. And, certainly have any marriage as that be recognized or to hold up in any court. Nuns taking vows and wearing a ring are no more closer to Jesus than I am. I did not take formal vows and don't wear a ring to express this...yet God and Jesus Christ love me and me Them just as authentically and lovingly as any other...no matter the religion
Any person can make words of vows and commitment of their heart to another. A boyfriend and girlfriend can make promises and commitments to each other to be true only to them...the girl might even wear a special necklace as an expression of her and her boyfriends commitment to each other. Well, nuns apparently are expressing words of vows of their promises and commitment to Jesus...and they choose to wear a wing as a symbol of those vows. What they are doing is human (ideas of man) based. God is of no material object or literal words. God is Love, Energy, Pureness of no shape, form or words (that can be spoken), or ring...God simply IS. God is felt and 'heard' within the soul. Yet, we express (objects, spoken words) as humans do for purpose of communication with one another.
I was not raised Catholic, I was raised Presbyterian...I'm not not of any church or temple and am simply spiritual...yet I am respectful of all faiths and how they choose to express. I love and live my life by the grace of Knowingness of God and of the teachings of Jesus Christ...I don't need to express any formal vows to any other person or wear anything to live or express this. He knows the truth of my soul and heart and that's enough for me.
Things as you stated in your question of rings and such are simply symbolism...items I don't personally agree with. Being of authentic soulfulness is within a person and connected out to God and others...it's not in any material object such as a ring. Yet if a person chooses to wear an object to indicate to others and as a reminder to their own selfs of their committment (religious vows, marriage vows, etc.) then fine...no big deal.

YES..That is a way of saying that you love God...When someone says that they married Jesus,it means that they love their god and respect him and they have given their heart to God.
