I can't believe the trolls here. Some people should be banned from posting.
In Orange County, there are a number of excellent beaches. From north to south:
Bolsa Chica: One of the few beaches left with fire pits, where you can enjoy a nice bonfire into the evening. just north of HB.
Huntington Beach: Surf City, USA. This is a very popular destination. There are a number of surf shops at the end of Main Street by the pier. This is still a classic surf break, and you can see surfers here all year. There is a Ruby's at the end of the pier, which is a retro 50's diner. Be sure to have a shake. If the weather is nice, eat upstairs on the deck.
Newport Beach (probably the closest to Anaheim): Also a nice beach, but not as famous as Huntington. However, a number of celebs live down on the beachfront here.
Balboa: Has a nice pier with another Ruby's, and used to have the Fun Zone.
Laguna Beach: Another famous beach, has its own TV show. Lots of little restaurants and shops. Started as an artists colony.
Just a warning: In June, we usually have a lot of fog at the beach for part or all of the day. We call it June gloom. Maybe you'll get lucky and get some sun!
Hope that helps, have fun!

Newport Peninsula is about 15-20 minutes south of Anaheim and is the easist to get to. Both Newport Beach and Balboa Beach are on the penisula. The 55 freeway turns into a sidestreet and will take you straight onto the peninsula. Huntington Beach is equally as nice, but will take you a little longer to get to because there isn't a highway that connect HB with Anaheim very well.

Anaheim is not a beach city, however if you are willing to drive about a half hour, I would go to either Huntington or Newport beach.
Newport is about an hour away and more upscale, also a tougher place to park. However Huntington Beach is about as good as it gets anyway so you would be better off there.

If you are going to be here for a while I would try all of them, but start with Huntington Beach. It has a boardwalk and pier and is pretty active, so it should be interesting.....a lot of surfers hang out there so you can watch or try that.....I think there is a small charge for their parking lot....and you can find someplace to eat across the street...I think they still have built up fire pits so you might try that...There are only a handful of beaches left that allow fire cooking and so on...
