do i need a special licenes to remote desktop to the 2003 server with each of my other pc's? i have 3 others each running XP PRO, im not sure if they get temporary licenses from server 2003 and it will end in 120 days or not? or should the fact that each XP Pro is licensed be enough to use the remote desktop function endlessly?

2003 usually comes with a 5 user license. If you are using your server as a domain server that will be fine. You can buy Terminal Server licenses, but your 2003 would have to be set up to run as the terminal server.

You can remote desktop into a 2003 server without buying the terminal server license... just make sure you have a cal / per seat license for each of your users.

Your Server 2003 OS comes with licenses for 2 or 3 remote desktop licenses depending on the version. If its Server 2003 Small Business it has 2 remote desktop licenses. If its Server 2003 Pro it has 3 remote desktop licenses. You will have to purchase additional licenses for simultaneous remote desktop applications beyond that.

I believe for XP Pro you can only have one remote desktop running but I am not 100% certain of that.

The server licensing is a license for computers to connect..../during server setup you can choose either a numbered node license meaning only 5 or 10 systems can connect or a per server lisence thats unlimited,....no they don;t expire...

windows licensing is kinda weird. remote desktop to a server is recommended only if they are admins.

if you have 20 licenses, then only 20 max users can sign on (legally)

Microsoft servers want you to send in money for each computer that 'connects' meaning that all those spam messages are going to cost you!

Why not run a real server OS, just like Hotmail and MSN, Microsoft Yahoo, Google, and all the Tier 1/ Tier 3 Internet servers, and all the Fortune 500 Corporations run, immune to all "114,000Microsoft Virus Definitions".

Yes, you know that *BSD and GNU/Linux and Solaris all are server 'nix OSes which are FREE and FULL service, without expensive 'licenses'! http://distrowatch.com and http://livecdlist.com have 500+ of them.

You dont need any license! There is no license required for remote desktop or networking!
