Where I live there are some car lots that do their own financing. They usually want a little bigger down payment and you make your payments at the lot. I see a wide selection of 5-8 year old cars, vans, some pickups on their lots. They have a wrecker too. If you don't make your payments, they come and get the car. There are main line dealers also in my area that say they specialize in selling cars to people with bad credit. Bankruptcy, divorce, anything. They deal with lenders who specialize in this, of course the rates are higher because they are taking a bigger risk. These dealers seem to have newer cars, some only a couple of years old. There are several options for buying cars with bad credit today. I am sure that any major metropolitan area has both these types of places available to purchase cars while having bad credit.

Call the used car dealers, especially the small ones, to find out who will "carry" the finance papers. Often, such companies charge higher interest rates, and will sometimes sell your contract to a finance company. But that will only give you a greater credit rating if you keep up your payments.

After the first year of payments, you might consider trading your car in which will get you out of the initial contract sooner than paying it off completely. That would get you another credit rating and possibly a better car.

If you can't get a car as described above, you may have to start with smaller purchases, like furniture or clothing. Start small, keep up your payments, and eventually you'll have a good credit rating.

Somce car dealers offer "special credit" but you'd better pray that you get a top notch car out of the deal because it'll be a long time before you can afford to do it again. I did this 10 years ago and paid 6K for a 3K car. The car only lasted 5 years.

Just enter your zipcode for a list of auto loan providers in your area. As far as I know these providers will help you even if you have bad credit - be prepared however for high interest
