It is not required, but a nice thing to do if the person is sharp and professional. After all, they are handling your food, and a bit of good will is not out of order if one can afford it.

Hi

What you should do is offer him a tip. If they are bound by the same rules as Sainsbury's drivers they are not allowed to take tips!!! It isn't rude not to offer tips as they aren't providing a service over and above what you are paying for. If the driver came in and put the shopping away then that would be worth tipping!!!

Happy Home Shopping

If you always have your shopping from Asda delivered by the same man then it would be just like tipping the milkman which most people do at the end of the year.
It depends on how helpful he is, but at the same time no one ever tips the people on the till do they?

The delivery is added to the shopping list so they are making money.

Nice thought to tip the driver but be careful otherwise he/she may start thinking you are after something else!!

If you went to the shop would you tip the cashier, the bag packer or the trolley attendent? If not why tip the delivery driver?

I don't think they would be able to accept tips. When I worked for Tesco we wern't allowed to accept anything from customers and my current job has a policy that any gift from a customer must be under £5 in value and declared to my line manager. It is often too much hastle so I wiouldn't bother. Thank them nicely is all you can do really.

The delivery driver can actually be sacked for taking tips from customers. It is company policy that he accepts no gratis tips from customers, whether it be payment or gift. He gets paid for doing his job from his work.

I'd say not - you're paying a delivery charge and they're getting paid to deliver to you. They wouldnt expect a tip either.

its down to personal choice and discretion. if they are rude surly and in a hurry then tip them nothing, if they are helpfull polite and cheery then a thank you would'nt hurt. remember they are doing a job the same as you. a thank you is the biggest courtesy to give to someone doing their job. i have refused tips in my jobs, i provided a service and had the persons forcibly try and force the tip into my hand. which made me more steadfast in my refusal. just say thank you.
