It sounds like you need to ask a doctor why you are weak and always sick. They don't want your blood if you're sick. Fainting can occur if the giver has not had enough food or water recently or even if they're nervous about giving. Too many people try to give on an empty stomach, but that's just asking for trouble. You should probably skip it until you find out why you are weak.

Ok I have given blood plenty of times myself, and as an RN here is what I think. DO NOT give blood if you are a weak person, you may be anemic. If you arent feeling well, or your Iron is low, they wont let you donate anyway. The LITTLE juice and two cookies they give you isnt enough for the donation, its just a little added bonus! Giving blood is TOTALLY safe and really HELPS OUT A LOT....I work in an ER and we use blood ALL THE TIME! BUT, I would not suggest you to do it this time, you are going to have a ton of oppertunities to give in the future, hold off this time until you are feeling better!!

Giving blood is a great thing to do, It is really the gift of life. They will check your blood pressure tomorrow, and if it is too low, you cannot give. Otherwise you will be OK. Just be honest with the questions, some are quite personal, and think about being a real hero. It does not take long, but you will be a better person for doing it.

If you're in good health right now, go ahead and give blood. I give blood every 8 weeks (the Red Cross is really good about e-mailing me when I can donate again). The few times I've gotten woozy were because I didn't eat or drink enough. Eat a good breakfast and a good lunch. Drink plenty of water between now and then. Water also plumps your veins up and makes it easier for them to get the needle inserted. Nothing more embarrasing than being sent away because they couldn't find a vein.

If you can, it's is one of the best gifts you can give your community. You have to weigh a certain amount, but as long as you are that weight then I would try at least. It's scary, but you get such a good feeling of contribution when you do. I'm terrified of needles, but I donate every 8 weeks. My fiance and I have a goal. We want to donate an entire barrel of blood combined if we can. They should take care of you and try to make sure you don't pass out. (I've almost passed out every time) Don't try to be your own hero.... if you feel light headed, let them know. They will get you ice packs, lay you down flat, and give you something like a gatorade. It's the best feeling to know that you could have just saved a life. I don't know where you live, but here in Oklahoma we get free blood testing to let us know how healthy we are. We also get tshirts and earn points toward free heart exams. I would recomend doing it at least once for the experiance, then if you hate it, you don't have to do it again. Make sure you eat a good breakfast and drink alot of water first.
Read up on the stories of people who have been saved by donations of blood and it will give you such a feeling of accomplishment. It's what keeps me giving no matter what happens.

If you are healthy and not underweight you should be fine. They normally give you some kind of juice and a snack and if they don't make sure to bring something. This will help your body recoupe from the blood loss. Take your time getting up afterwards also. If you feel you need to lay there a little longer don't hesitate to. They will understand.
Just remember what you giving blood means... you're helping to save lives.

I've given blood before and unless you eat right, you will faint. They take 1 pint of blood out of you, doesn't seem like a lot but it is. Just make sure that you eat properly the day before and that morning. After you give blood they'll give you a snack and some orange juice, make sure you eat and drink it, that will help a lot. Some people still get woozy from it but it is normal.

If you're already weak then I would say you really shouldnt. Some people are just not made to be able to give blood, and its okay. Below is a link for the american red cross donation eligibility guidelines. I hope this helped even if a little bit. Good luck.

Everyone's different, just think about what your blood will do... save someones life... its worth it!!! just don't give if you are sick that day, then the person who gets your blood will come down sick, and some of them have very weak immune systems. Give blood, save a life.

it's always a good idea to give blood since sooo many people need it and it's just a nice feeling you get knowing that you helped save someone's life. as for your concern, they usually ask a series of questions about your health, and if they observe that you are not qualified then they won't let you go through it.
