got it last thursday, never got red or hurt or any scabbing..i think it is about to get into the phase where the skin kinda peels and stuff....its confusing being the 1st tat cause where it looks like ink may be gone could be dead skin on top about to come off...the guy that did it has won 5 awards..he is good...and i have taken perfect care of it...im just curious if its a usual thing to have it touched up or its unusual to have it touched up in the 1st month or even year for that matter.

and btw to the chick who said if you were drunk you would bleed it out....you are a nitwit I swear to god...booze is not that big of a factor, they just don't want drunks coming in....my artist said one time a chick was kinda drunk and fell down and knocked herself out and when she woke up she started screaming RAPE RAPE! LOL...who needs that crap?

Mine didn't. I get the idea it is fairly uncommon. I may be a special case since I'm so pale & my skin is practically transparent; ink shows extremely well through.
In general, it just sounds like you're going through the usual. It starts *very* bright as the ink is not just at the permanent level but also in the higher levels of the epidermis. It gets fairly gray looking pretty fast as the skin starts shedding quickly (the expected wear & tear from the tattooing process), and then 'sets' to it's permanent look as the old skin is normally sloughed off.
I find the total process takes about 3 months, but it's mostly there within 1 month. Just keep up your care regimen and you should be fine.

It depends.... I personally don't think its common or uncommon; it depends on if the artist missed an area or didn't get the ink evenly in that spot, could be the color of the ink and how you healed. It could also depend on where the tattoo went.
I've had some of my tats touched up and others didn't need it, all done by the same person and all healed without problems and I didn't pick at them or anything.

Don't try to determine if your tattoo needs touching up or not while it is healing. It is going through many changes and at times, when the fresh epidermis is very opaque, you are not going to see some of the color that is in the dermis until that gets more transparent as healing progresses.
Just keep up with your after care instructions and give it time...at least two weeks.

Dude, I am not an expert in anything, well except Field Artillery, but my Army days are over. Anyhow, if the artist was overworking the skin, or you were bleeding too much, sure. Tatt_bratt and Deb P are our real experts though. I am just an avid collector and enthusiast.

i'm not aware of it being necessary to get a tattoo touched up within a month. i guess it depends on your artist and how your skin did with the tattoo. my artist doesn't consider a tattoo "finished" until it has been touched up. but he usually waits 4-6 months after the tattoo is done to touch up any spots that may need it.

your tat should be raised up about 3 days later and start to scab, the ink fades anyway. so unless you can barley see it i wouldent get it touched up. i would let another tattoo artist look at it and make sure it looks ok since we can see it personally....

If you were drunk when you got it than you may need some touch ups because that makes the ink bleed. Also often they'll just do the outline first and you have to come back to have it all filled in.
