i know the President is the Commander-in-Chief, but he's not the one who is fighting there in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is the troops! So, why would i support the Commander-in-Chief who just sit around and give orders? i would rather support someone who really doing the REAL work. Someone who is really fighting for it in real life.

So, if you do not support what the president is doing now but you support the troops, isn't that a difficult spot ? The president is the commander-in-chief of the troops, a job title that was handed to him when he was elected by the voters. It's a constitutional thing. There also advisers in the president's cabinet in the defense department (generals and admirals) that fall under the heading of "the troops". These same ad visors are the ones that suggest that the president do certain things (for example, the troop increase in Iraq). Since "the troops" are the ones that wanted this troop increase, how can you be against the president for doing what "the troops" wanted and be for "the troops" and supporting them? I may not agree with the president on everything he does and I wish he had not made the mistakes he has made but I will remain behind him and a supporter as long as I think the mistakes were honest and honorable and what he is doing is for the country's benefit as well as mine and any other American citizen.

First of all he did serve when he was of age, although he was kind of a slacker back then, being the son of a president and all. Bush cannot fight in the military even if he wanted due to age and other restrictions, also we need someone to "sit there and give orders" and he is filling that job. Could you imagine if the US president was actually fighting on the ground? What a stupid idea.

Yes you can support the troops and question the leaders who support this war. As people who elected them to office we have absolutely every right to question them.

But are the troops really getting the true support from the Government? With the lack of sufficient equipment they have over in Iraq (Rumsfeld admits it himself), the extended tours they are forced to take, they amount of pay they receive for their service, and I haven't even brought up Walter Reed yet...

We must honor and respect our soldiers for they are doing one of the hardest, if not the hardest job in the world, that's the one thing we didn't do for the Vietnam vets. We must also donate what we can to the troops, USO accepts donation of foods, cards, clothes, etc.

However at the same time we must question our leaders for using our soldiers in such a trivial matter, because their lives are not a trivial matter at all.

Just by going around and wearing a stupid sticker isn't really supporting our troops.

One cannot support the Troops without supporting the Presidents plan...Plain and simple, either you support the whole plan, or you don't.
By not supporting the plan, you undermine the troops....lower moral, and cost them needed money and supplies, by Congress not backing the expenditures.
VietNam was lost for the exact reason, you mention....Lack of support at home....it turned around and the returning vets were blamed for the whole fiasco, when it was lack of support at home.
If you want Victory and the troops return, you need to TOTALLY SUPPORT THE WAR. You can disagree, but you still have to back it....if not, we will never win.
One poster mentioned the GOOD STUFF, that is never reported. Look at these links, you might be surprised at all the good stuff, and the fact that we are currently WINNING

I support my friends.
I support my family.
I support those in need when I'm in a position to help.
I support myself.
My taxes support everyone the government allows it to support.
I support my troops - because I would never just leave them there, but if it had been up to me, I would have gone into Kuwait, kicked the Iraqis out, rescued the American hostages from Iraq, given a few black eyes on my way out, and then held the Kuwaiti border. And if those Arab princes didn't help out, they'd find they were WITHOUT my support.
And my president, however assinine, is in-freakin-charge.
My only nightmare that wakes me up out of a sound sleep at night, is that Bush may be Vice-President, and might succeed the president to rule again two more years after his second term ends as is allowed in the Constitution.

Most of us are born and bread to support our government, its setup for us to change it by voting. maybe 50% of eligible voters do so. I also support our Troops and Bush and its not Bush its congress, congress has to agree with what hes doing in Iraq before he can do anything. I know you hear some talk coming out of the whitehouse about pulling out our troops etc.. but trust me its the minority .. if it wasn't they could pass a bill to pull them out and vote on it. Presidential "VETO" power will not work if 2/3 of congress approves a bill to pull our troops out.

Misz Jay: You have the right under the constitution of the USA to support whoever you want and to feel exactly as you do and to talk about that. I think George Bush has gotten us into a terrible mess and I wish our troops were home. I have a friend whose husband is in Iraq and she has 3 teenage daughters --I watch that family and try to be careful that I don't say something hurtful. I pray for the men and women of our armed forces and I pray that someone in Congress/senate gets the nerve to vote to bring them home. people forget that it was Richard Nixon - a republican - who pulled us out of Vietnam and it was Lyndon Johnson - a democrat- who mired us in there. It just goes to prove that sooner or later everything goes full circle. Interesting isn't it? -k-

You can't blame bush for what is going on in the economy because it doesn't just drop like it has, things like that just take time.... Clinton freakin just hid things instead of dealing with them.
I support the men and women who have served and will serve in Iraq. I support saving lives and i want my brothers and sisters in arms to come home as well, but we go where we are needed and will do so even after we are disbanded. We are taught to fight and if necessary kill, our training keeps those people that fight to kill us dead and the ones that fight for our freedom alive. We are taught to follow orders, we may not always like them, but we follow them none the less. If we don't like it, our contract will eventually run out. I don't mind serving and Iraq isn't all bad, but the media will forever and always be corrupt. They show what people want to see which is, and i will never understand this, the bad things that happen.

I support my wife and kids. F*ck the troops. F*ck the President. The only war I'll ever fight in is if Canada invades the US.
