I'm thinking about getting a truck. But I don't want just any truck. I want the kind of truck that eats other trucks for breakfast!

I'm thinking about going with the 2008 Ford F250 Super Duty. (And I dont want and of that FORD=Fix Or Repair Daily crap. I like Ford trucks. I happen to think they are a very good truck.)

Thing is...it's a diesel....how are diesel's with fuel/mpg? How much is the cost of diesel compared to regular gas?

Don't have word yet on the fuel economy as we haven't heard any news on the new 6.4 yet except it's teething problems (which is to be expected on any new model and engine)

The engines (6.4) are apparently being looked over a lot deeper and harder for problems than they did at 6.0 launch...

6.0s were getting about 17-18 if you kept your foot out the pedal and in my area Diesel is about the same price as premium gasoline due to the new ULSD (Ultra low sulfur diesel) rules (all the refiners in the area have already converted in my area, other areas it's still hit and miss...

But word of caution, unless you plan on playing/working hard and almost rolling it like you stole it, stay away from the Diesel as it's not a soccer mom engine.. people who baby them sometimes have issues...

Also you are looking at $75 oil change compared to $25 ... Fuel filters are required every 15k miles and are $125 roughly parts and labor and they don't like K and N air filters...

Oh and BTW... you modify the exhaust on a 2008 diesel.. including changing the tip on the exhaust pipe can cost you some money even under the 5/100k warranty... (as the new exhaust is made to properly work to clean the exhaust.. changing it will cause more service issues to clean the new traps in the exhaust)

It boils down to what you are going to do with it and how long you want to keep it.

Fuels costs with gas vs. diesel , during the winter diesel fuel production is split for home heating oil so the price shoots up above gas during the winter months. Gas goes up and down as diesel does.

MPG diesel is about 50% better than gas dependent on driving habits. so if you go 10 miles with gas you go 15 mils with diesel.

The cost of the Diesel engine vs. the V-10, The Diesels do not pay for themselves until you pass the 120,000 mile mark (simple economics)

If You plan on keeping a short time and hot-rod it, the V-10 is what you want, then chip it and put a blower or super charger on it. Then get rid of it in about 3 years when the bottom end is about ready to fall out, unless the transmission gives up the ghost first.

Or if You are going to tow and keep it forever then the diesel. Diesels are not meant for the drag races, they are meant for work. Those that have their diesel in the shop a lot are lead footing it at almost every stop light. Computers do not lie... Friends from the ford dealer ship who works on my truck. He Knows when I put my foot into it...

In the end just maintain the truck the way the owners manual tells you, it should last to 250K miles with no problems… And no street racing.

Racing places a heavy stress on the truck, just like cars (why you think that stock car racing is no longer raced with stock cars? But with very expensive engineered frames and engines) Dealership cars for the general public are daily drivers, not racers.

Diesels are much better with fuel economy than a comparable gas engine.

Specifically with a Ford Super Duty, definitely get it with the Powerstroke 6.4L V8. You'll notice the difference in the power and performance.

You can get this truck with a 5.4L V8 gas, but that'll feel under powered if you try to do too much and with the 6.8L V10, your gas mileage will be worse than with the diesel.

The 2008 Ford Super Duty with the 6.4L Powerstroke Diesel engine is the best truck out there. I have no doubt about it.

i would not buy the new diesel until it has proven itself yet.The 6.0 l was nothing but problems so they are replacing it already. And from what i can see this one will not be better we have one in the shop already with turbo problems .I would personnaly go with the V-10 gas myself real reliable engine. These engine power big c class mtor homes with no problems .Take it from a tech that works on them everyday

I thought that you could get it with a gas engine if you wanted.
