Because it is part of their faith and is recorded in one of the scriptural texts they use; they traveled by ship.
Just as there is no evidence of Adam and Eve (unless there is, then I apologize), Noah, etc. Religion is faith based and therefore there is no evidence, or lack thereof, that will convince anyone of the truth. People must obtain a personal conviction through education and inspiration. Because it is personal we should just respect those with different beleifs.

You might like to read W. Cleon Skousen's "Treasures from the Book of Mormon," and if you are willing to start investing time in studying archaeology, there is actually quite a bit of evidence.

It is quite simple how they got here if you think about it. The same way the Lord Jesus was able to walk on water. God just released them from their Earthly bondage and they floated here free of that scientific theory called gravity. They were able to make it quite easily. Gravity isn't real you know. if God didn't keep everything tethered it would just all float away. It is quite ridiculous to assume you need evidence for something to have happened. It is called intelligent falling I believe.

That's the story line of the Book of Mormon. I think you better let those of us who understand the LDS church and people ask the questions.. Jim

after jesus died he came to north america (no jokes). that's basically what the third book is, the book of mormon.
there is no religion that has any good "proof". it bothers me when one religious group slams another's faith. personally i think it's arrogant to think anyone has got it completely right
