In other disciplines?
Do you mean out side of art, or within the same creative realm? I can only speak for myself:
I began to draw at 4, continued on to 10, when an auntie, an artist, a colorist, introduced me to color, paints, brushes and so forth.
I continued to paint 'till I was 16 and entered art school as a painting major only.
When I was 20, and had gone on to graduate school, also pursuant of art - I double majored in sculpture and painting.
For a while I did both, until I decided something was itching to come through again. I became interested in metalsmything, carving, and by an entirely minute introduction into its vast creative realm : fabric design, weaving, beading and tapestry making.
I am now caught between this last frontier and a new one appearing in the horizon : the making of very complex objects " treasure boxes" I call them, because "they" call themselves so . . .

There fore in attempt to answer your question from the perspective of my understanding of it . . (and I may be wrong) - The imagination is an open field, waiting to be seeded.
The field, seeded freely of many types of plant, flower forms, fruits, trees, as great a variety of seed as it'd welcome to be impregnated with, grow and cultivate, will produce on its' own as many variety of art forms or disciplines as it has the capacity to bring forth from how fertile its' soil may be.

I never fret, a to where I MUST go next - when an art form changes into another - I allow the capacity of my imagination, whatever it may be to call upon me to receive the challenge of any new discipline.

Hope I've helped?
Grace.
