I interpret that phrase to mean that a person (or other living thing) is alone it that only that being can feel their own experience. Who is Grandma Death?

What if you die in a room full of people? Are you alone?
Even if you do, are there more people in the hospital?
Does a tree die alone? Or does it die amongst all the rest of the trees in the forest?

"Alone" is a relative term. There is always a great "container" to place something/someone in to make them not alone.

You're alone in your house, but not in the neighborhood.
You're alone in the city, but not in the state.
You're alone in the state, but not the country.
You're alone in the country, but not the world.
You're alone in the world, but not the galaxy.
You're alone in the galaxy, but not the universe.

And there ya have it.

There were 50 people in the room when my mom died. I was holding her hand and looking into her eyes as she took her last breath. I don't think that could be consisered alone at all.

Hmmm, I don't think so, but I guess it depends on how you look at it. Obviously, many people die with people around them. But you could say that they enter into death alone - those around them did not die with them. But, I think that God is there with them. So no one really dies alone then.
