There is no way of checking it. To drain and fill this transmission on this particular vehicle, requires removing the 7/8" plug on the bottom of the transmission pan. To fill the transmission, replace the plug, but remove the TX-30 plug in the center of the outer plug. Using a plunger, fill the transmission through the hole with the proper Ford Mercon V fluid, until fluid runs out of the hole. Start engine, and bring up to operating temperature. Continue filling through the inner hole as described until fluid runs out of hole. At this time, the fluid level is full. I know this sounds stupid, but it is the ONLY way to service the fluid on this particular transmission. The reason for this, as explained by Ford, is to reduce the number of warranty claims on transmission failures due top ups by "outside" garages with improper fluid. Hope this helps.

You'll probably have to take it to someplace like Mr. Transmission because I think the transmission fluid on your car has to be checked from under the engine by a pro. But be careful. I took my Cadillac there for a routine service because it was kind of jumping when it was switching from 4th to 5th gear. Of course they told me I had MAJOR metal in my trans. fluid & was probably gonna have to have it rebuilt ($2400.00) or replaced (God only knows). The car only had 62,000 miles on it. I told them I would wait a bit & see what happened. Sure enough, the regular service fixed the problem. Don't let them screw you.
