suffers like depression. I know it would be tremendous help to me to conquer this disease if I had a regular source of support if there were regular face to face meetings with people who understand. There is only one in my town (Columbus, Ohio) and they only meet once a month). If anyone knows of any, please let me know. I am in therapy, have been hospitalized and in day treatment. I just need to talk to people who understand and online support groups just aren't cutting it anymore. Thanks. Please, only serious answers. This is important.

There may be local support groups for those with depression. And how wonderful that you have sought treatment and were in a day program after being hospitalized. I was in day treatment for a little while for anxiety and depression as well. The intense treatment was really helpful and learning coping strategies to deal with stress was invaluable.

I found an organization, Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, that does have support groups throughout the nation, and hopefully they gather locally to you as well. www.ndmda.org Click on 'find support' and then the prompts tell you what to click next. And just fyi, self-help groups are actually 'just' an adjuct to actual therapy :) I found that taking my medication is crucial to my functioning (as well as counseling), and I take it the same time each day.

As a sufferer of depression I agree with you 100%. I live in Regional NSW Aust. and find the same issue. We have a 24hr counselling service who are very good at listening but I don't like to ring 24/7. My best support came from the social worker at the local hosp, she was very helpful. My suggestion to you is why not start up a group, few brochures around, I am sure many people would respond, after all AA was started by just two men and look at it now. Many community halls will often charge next to nothing rent for these types of meetings. This would also give you something to focus on and could be lots of fun for you. I wish you lots of luck

Go to the Yahoo homepage and click on "groups". They have a health & wellness group that might be beneficial to you. There is even a sub-category of "support". You just join the group that you would like to communicate with (it's free). They are basically groups of people with similar thoughts or problems and get together to chat about it. It could help you meet people that share your problems or maybe at least help your problems. Good luck, I really hope it helps!

Emotions Anonymous is a support group for depression and for some other things as well. You can search it online, put in your zip code and it will tell you the closest meeting to you.
