My son is an only child, is pretty advanced for his age, counts to 20, says ABC's, knows his full name and parents full name, counts to 10 in spanish, knows all his colors......I am undecided, the preschool would be only 2 days a week. He currently attends daycare 2 days a week and is home the others. thanks for input. pro and con.

I am not showing off, I encourage my child to learn and yes I am very proud of him. He is only on top of his game because I work with him.

I would go ahead and do it. My daughter was in the same boat and she did very well in preschool. I did have to sign a paper saying that if she couldn't keep up with the older kids they could ask me to withdraw her. She had absolutly no problems adjusting and loved it.

it all depends on you and your schedule and how you feel about putting him in preschool. I started my son in preschool when he was 3 and now I regret it a little when I think back on it. They are only little for a short time, and I should have enjoyed my time with him a little more before shipping him off to school. On the plus side he started preschool at 3, went to preschool again at 4, and was able to start Kindergarten at 5. He's 11 and in 6th grade now. If he doesn't get held back any, he can graduate high school at 17 instead of 18 like his peers. So that might be an advantage, I don't know yet.

I would do it......I think it's important for children to be socialized with other kids AND to learn there are rules to a classroom. Most daycare i know are more free-time and have just a little structured time in the day. Pre-school will give more structure and help your son become prepared for kindergarten. Plus, preschool teachers usually have to have some sort of early childood degree, while daycare workers only need a high school diploma. Preschool teachers are trained on how to spot difficulties in fine motor skills (cutting, writing, holding pencil, etc), as well as speech difficulties, and gross motor difficulties. They also know what skills are expected to be learned prior to starting kindergarten.

Yes I would. My daughters started preschool this past September before they turned 3 and they go 2 days a week for a couple of hours. They also knew everything your son knows, except for counting in spanish. And they are doing great in preschool, they love it. I would put him in preschool.

Yes, why not. Their minds are little sponges right now. The interaction with other kids is very important. My son started Hooked on Phonics at 3 1\2 at his preschool. He loved it since a lot of the instruction looked like games. He is now 6, in first grade and one of the best readers in his class. He loves reading and learning.

Daycare tend to cover the same things that a preschool cover in temrs of academics. Preschool is intended for socialization and to prepare a child for kindergarten and being away from mom for part of the day. The schedule you currently have seems sufficent.

Well, let me start off by saying he sounds like a very smart little boy. I also have a 3 year old son who will be turning 4 in July, and we are planning on sending him to preschool. As smart as your son sounds I think he would love school, if he seems excited about it. Ultimately we all have to decide what is right for our own kids, but he sounds ready to me.

YES, I put my 2 1/2 yr old and after the two week adjusting period she really likes it now.

He will only be enriched by the stimulation and he needs to learn about friends and socializing.

He may hate it at first and you'll be heartbroken but the payoff is after a few days when he really starts thriving.

I would send him. It can only benefit him! I have a daughter who will be 4 in June and one we just registered for kindergarden. It is incredible what they expect these little 5 year olds to do! They teach them to read in kindergarden now! My oldest actually went to a 5day preK program for 2 1/2 hrs a day this past year and my 4 year old will be in this class next year. I'm confident Kindergarden wont be a traumatic experience for them. They are well prepared!
