Cold turkey isn't meant to help its a physical symptom. The honest answer is that there isn't an easy way. But here are some tips that worked for me on a smoother passage to kicking the evil weed.
1. You need to really want to stop. We all know its bad for us but unless you really are sick to the back teeth with smoking and the only thing keeping you from stopping is the nicotine addiction then don't even try.
2. Stop with someone else. Even if its not smoking they are giving up it helps to stop something with another person. Could be you have a wife that wants to give up chocolate for example (as if, ignore that example).
3. Support from friends and family is vital. You don't want to be in a bar on a Friday night with some so called friend who keeps blowing smoke over you and offering you cigarettes as a joke.
4. Chewing gum is ok but best way is just to give up everything. 3 to 4 weeks you will be feeling better.
5. Finally, and this was the one that did it for me 9 years ago, get a wife/girlfriend to nag you when you fall by the wayside, as you indefinately will from time to time. The power of guilt is not to be underestimated.
In my opinion you are never an ex-smoker just a smoker that doesn't practice any more. Often I feel like having a crafty cigarette. The feelings pass and become less frequent. Take each day at a time and enjoy your increased lung capacity.

There's a woman at my work in her 50's that's ha been smoking for well over 30 years. She took this new perscription Chantix and had completly stopped smoking in 2 weeks and now she swears by it. Chantix blocks the receptors in your brain from nicotine.
GOOD LUCK!

People usually smoke coz their addicted or coz they kill time with it while their daydreaming or thinking, if ur the first case, then u really need patches and stuff, if ur second case try to find something that'd keep u busy, some activities, interesting person to chat with, also try something else instead cigarettes to pass ur time with, i wouldn't say reading coz it's impossible, for me it was chocolate and sports, so it really works if u keep urself busy, if daydream alot and u like, try to listen to some music. I hope i helped, good luck!!

I know im a kid but my parents had to quit and this is what they did...just replace it with gum or something! So every time you feel that you need a cigarette, chew a peice of gum or whatever you want!
