Hey guys,

Im currently looking at getting a used car (Acura TL)
Currently, a Acura near my place has one with a accident claim of 5,000 dollars (Canadian)

Whats the deal with buying cars with accident history?

They said the 5,000 was - front bumper, headlights, and paintjob and there was nothing to worry about

Im still weary.. Im going to get my mechanic to take a look at it first, but wanted to get some advice before i waste my time

I was in an accident worth $5k US, mainly because it was a Lexus. Damage was mostly cosmetic (bumper, headlight, etc) and after it was fixed, ran like new.

So if the engine/trans checks out then you have nothing to worry about.

Have the mechanic put it up on the rack, he will look for frame damage and then have him check the alignment to see if it is at the ends of its' limits.

5K for repair these days is minimal.
I had a guy with a Grand Prix needed new front bumper and a hood that was sprung.....3K

If possible go to a different ACURA dealerships' service dep't for your inspection. If the vehicle was dealer maintained, serviced or repaired, they will be able to tell you. Also front end collisions can be tricky, problems may not re-appear for some time. This happened to me, I ended up having to re-open my insurance claim, then go through a lot of crap to proove my case. I prevailed, I had to, the repairs were approx. $2,000. BE CAREFUL!
