Yes !! I have a co-worker that has been at our company for over 30 years. He absolutely refuses to acknowlege anyone in the sales dept. When I introduced myself to him 6 years ago, he looked at me , turned away and walked off.
I was determined to "win the war". I always said "good morning" to him, said "good bye", "have a good weekend", you know regular comments. Now he actually tells me jokes now and then. Amazing. Some people are just naturally jackasses and personally, I don't care for him, but I decided to win this war with his personality.

I have never killed anyone with kindness, but I have never died trying either.
I have dealt with difficult customers and listened to them whine for 30 minutes or so, just to have them exhaust themselves. Really, after you tell them that you are sorry that things did not go as they expected and ask them what it is that you can do to change it; they realize that they are whining and expecting you to come up with the answer 'ok - I'll give you something free or give you money back. They will then have to confess that they are just trying to get something for their whining and it takes all the wind out of them.

Only if I am getting paid to, otherwise no. I'm a polite person, with good manners, however I react quickly. If someone is obnoxious to me with no cause, I react in the same manner, only faster and better. Not necessarily proud of it, but that is the way it is. I guess I am a work in progress........

That was my standard operating procedure whenever I was a server and a bartender. Every time someone unbearably rude requested my service, I would always be nothing but super nice to them. It irritated them!

Absolutely...matter of fact I live by this rule. It's cool to watch someone be confused as to how you got the upper hand in the situation.
