How about "make believe" (i.e. Pastafarianism, Star Trek, etc.)?

I know..... Atheists have as much if not more faith in their own viewpoint than theists have in theirs. I find that highly amusing.

I agree atheism is a religion although not in the organised sense. There is no proof of no-god therefore what they have is a belief. Science itself holds no opinion on the existence or non-existence of god, and I object when people twist the meaning of science to try to imply that it does.

Atheists are not 'ardent believers' in 'the religion of non-belief' ... they are simply 'non-believers in God' ...
and your 'question' points out a big PROBLEM with the way some people can 'use language' creatively to 'change the meaning' of what a person IS ... because being a 'non-believer' means one thing, and 'the religion of non-belief' means something else entirely ... but they 'seem' to be interchangeable, and are thus 'used incorrectly' more frequently than not.
And my husband and I are both 'good Catholics' ... and we also have a lot of fun 'discussing which fake-religion' we should 'belong to' ... right now it's down to either The Church of the Spaghetti Monster (Pastafarianism) or The Breathists. Figure it out ...

What makes Star Trek so unbelievable when you believe in silly things like Jonah living in the belly of a whale, Noah having two of every animal on a big boat for 40 days/nights or Lot's wife turning in to a pillar of salt? It may seem ridiculous to believe in Star Trek (and it is), but no more ridiculous than christianity.

Atheism is NOT A RELIGION. A simple thing but one you guys seem to loose focus on. And yes, I believe more in Star Trek than a lot of what you spew.

I think the answer to that one is that they know those things (Pastafarianism and Star Trek) .. are make believe and don't actually think they are reality.

That's the difference.

Great question. I guess when you truely don't believe in something and admintly support the belief that do you don't believe, at the point you can truly support and believe in your non-belief enough to start a non-belief religion that states that you believe in not believing. I know christian Trekkies though. It's not a big deal to make believe, as long as you don't truely believe in what your make believing in.

It kind of works like the Anti-cult cult.

Religion of atheism?

Drink up!

Atheism is not based around the worship of a spiritual being, hence it is not a religion. Make believe religions are exactly that - make believe. But they demonstrate flaws in the common "proofs" of christianity

why can't theists understand that the term 'atheist' merely denotes a disbelief in a deity? deity being a personified 'god'.
atheists can have a religion (such as buddhism), or not. atheism in itself is NOT a religion. disbelief in a deity is not a 'religion of non-belief'. i have beliefs, they just don't include the divinity of All being a personified entity.

The play make believe a lot. There really is not a religion of non-belief. I think Christianity is a threat to SOME of them.
