About every 1-3 months, my budgie will sit completely still on the floor outside his cage (because i let him out), with wide eyes, not moving even when i touch him. he stays like this for a few minutes and then takes off uncontrollably, hitting the walls, ceiling and furniture. he just doesn't stop flapping his wings and has no controll, hitting evereything. he'll stop flapping for a bit and fall quite hard to the floor, but then he'll go back to flying into everything without slowing down (he may also do this in his cage if he doesn't come out). eventually he sits on the floor and i can put him back into his cage to calm down. please can you give me some information on his behaviour.

It definitely sounds like a neurological problem. Strange behavior like this may be from too much light. Do you cover the cage at night or turn off all the lights to give him an adequate sleeping time? Since it's only every so many months, I doubt it's dietary. Make sure he's getting enough sleep, and see if there's a cycle to when he's doing this.

I bet you'll find he does it on nights when you're up late, or when you leave a radio on, or something simple like that.

I would work on training your budgie so that he is more comfortable and not as terrified when he is handled.

It works better for me if I go to a small room like a bathroom where you can have more control over him and also where he cannot see his cage. I can also control any distractions and limit the area in which he can fly. Close the curtains, turn off the ceiling fan and turn down the radio or TV. Let him just sit calmly on your hand or shoulder and when he can do that an not be scared you can work on the step up method with your fingers. Just let him perch on your finger and put your other finger to his chest and do this alternately like a ladder. I would not do anything until he can perch on your finger.

Something in his environment may be frightening him, like another animal in the house, near his cage. He's scared when handled,so it will take time to tame it. Could be you add too much vitamins to his food. Perhaps it doesn't get enough sleep. Make sure the cage is in a dark, quiet location at night at least 10 hours.

uh yeah, somthing is deffinatly frightening him, maybe you should look around where he was on the floor to see if there is anything that may seem scary or strange to a budgie. My budgie is very skittish around new things, so i know the type of behaviour you're describing, but maybe you just shouldn't take your budgie out, especially if he trys to refuse, don't force them into a situation that they're unsure about because they ususally fly around crazy like your budgie did. Maybe you should also get his wings clipped, so when he does fly around crazy he can't hurt himself
