Oh really? Do you think you know every law? Here in Michigan you can be arrested for living "in sin" with a woman, in one state you can be arrested for smoking on a Sunday, in another place you can be arrested for tying your donkey to a post in front of the post office. Here in the US you can be arrested and not charged while being held for as long as they want to keep you with out a lawyer if they say its a national security issue! Practically anyone can get a criminal record with out even trying too hard. Your green cheese comment reminds me that a man in New Jersey was arrested and convicted of "stealing" old moldy cheese out of a garbage container.

Anyone can get a get a record. You are guilty until proven innocent. All you have to do is make a sworn statement and a person will have something on there record. But it can reverse on the person. If you make a sworn statement and it is false, they can get you for that and make you pay for fees and expungments of that person's record. If you dont have evidence, then dont file a statement, not less it's a threat to your life.

partially because some people have been left out of the american dream systematically.
so they become drug dealers, prostitutes or run illegal casinos.
also, the amount of profit that can be made from the sales of some narcotics simply can never be deterred by any threat of criminal punishment.
if an investment of $3,000.00 nets you back over $50,000.00, no punishment, including the death penalty will stop that.
i am speaking of organized crime here, this makes up a large percent of the criminal population of the usa.

Because the people allow the legislatures to pass laws which criminalize the entire population.
The only difference is that those without records haven't been charged with a crime yet, which is not so difficult, there's just not enough people in law enforcement and not enough courts to handle everyone.

Have you ever had a drink while still underage? Smoked a little reefer? Had oral sex? Committed adultery?? These, among other things, are illegal in some jurisdictions and COULD result in a criminal record. It's not as difficult as some think and it is definately NOT only "other people" and "scum" who find themselves on the wrong side of the law sometimes.

Poverty, Lack of Opportunity, Getting expelled from school with no alternatives, corrupt cops, corrupt judges, a flawed justice system, alcohol and anger, family breakdown, racism, structural issues... It's not always the CHOICE of the person committing the "crime"; some people have NO ALTERNATIVES!
It's unfortunate that most people have never known anyone who have been in conflict with the law... and I guess it's fortunate that most have NEVER had to live in extreme in poverty and most people HAVE alternatives to crime... but for those who don't....

By thinking they a above the law, smarter than the law, people who commit a crime always think they will get away with it, a very few do, but many more don't.
