It's not extortion...extortion is threatening with something real. This is worse. It's a sick little fantasy that they sell themselves and each other on, and they will promote it to anyone gullible enough to believe it.

It's there because it is the truth. There is a place of severe punishment and it's in the bible to show us how to avoid it. I don't believe hell is forever though because the words forever were used a lot and it didn't always mean time with no end. I believe once everyone has paid for all their sins in hell everyone can get out. God is too kind to never let anyone get out of there. If we acknowledge we are a sinners now and repent we can avoid hell altogether.

Don't cave in to extortion = ignore the warning message put into the Bible?
Is it better to burn forever unextorted than to enjoy the blessings of heaven by heeding a warning?
The question you are asking is one that everyone sooner or later has to ask themselves.
It's your eternity, choose for yourself.
Hope you enjoy your answer.

The Bible states "The wages of sin is death". Hell was a Greek word that meant grave. It is not a place of eternal torture. If it were a place where people were conscious then the above quoted phrase would not be true. When Jesus died, he went to "hell" for 3 days, meaning he was in a dead state - in the grave - for that period of time.

The word extortion is a poor choice. It implies somebody's trying to extort or illegally force you to give them something.

I agree with the sentiment, just not the choice of words.

Unless I am thinking incorrectly, extortion is someone threatening someone else of something for personal gain. In this case, God has no personal gain of us abiding by His word, it is a benefit to US to do so.

Well, not for extortion, lololol. That would imply you have to pay money to stay out.

So that people will put lots of money in the plate. Keeping people in fear is a great way to become filthy rich (like Kings of old).

You don't have some choices in life...such as the weather or the economy.

You do have a choice where you spend your eternity.

What choice will you make?

Peace be with you.
