This is quite a big one to answer! Currently Plasma technology is slightly ahead of LCD's, but they are catching up fast - First off don't be fooled by the picture you see on screen in the showrooms. LCD's actually look better under flourescent lighting than plasmas but this is not an indication of picture quality. LCD's do not suffer from screen burn as Plasmas do (you know on some TV stations, the station name is displayed in the corner - this image can burn on to Plasmas). LCD picture quality is better at smaller screen sizes, plasma at larger screen sizes - plus plasma can go bigger than LCD anyway. The picture on a plasma is better than on LCD at the same definition. i.e. a 768 def plasma is better than a 768 def LCD. Both get about the same amount of viewing hours - usually between 10,000 and 16,000. In tests, the Panosonic Viera 42" screen comes out on top for Plasmas - The Philips Ambilight for LCD's (very expensive though). I personally would wait a year or two more for LCD technology to catch up and the price of both will drop, then get myself a nice 1080p LCD display. By the way - to view in hi-def, you need a minimum screen size of 37" to get the effect of high def or you may as well stay with a CRT and save your money.....

Plasma for sure, modern units last years and wont need charging before you upgrade sets. Lcd tv's not that good unless you have a Hi Def feed. Plasma looks great with normal digi tv. The viewing angles are almost the same and I personally find plasma looks better in bright and dark rooms. I use mine with sky digital, upscaled dvd player and hi def xbox 360. Go for Hitachi if you can as they come with 5 years warranty and use top panels unlike many other makes who buy all theirs from the likes of LG (this includes many sony tvs). Nothing wrong with LG et al but don't think you are always getting better quality by getting a big name. Get a Hitachi Hi-Def Plasma at least 42" if you can. You won't be disappointed. Forget all the numbers they throw at you as they are only as good as the tv processor and ultimately the feed into the tv.

Under 32 inch LCD over 32 plasma picture quality is normally better in a plasma over 32inches but lifespan only about 7 years which is shorter than an LCD by how much I am not sure. I have a Goodmans 32inch LCD which I am more than happy with, if your not sure get the magazine What HiFi sound and vision, Sony Bravia recomended.

There is no one answer to this question, which is why it's argued over so much.
Plasmas have a better picture quality. LCDs are better for gaming, no contest. LCDs now come with full HD resolution. Plasmas are more expensive. Plasmas are more likely to break. LCDs are lighter and easier to wall mount. Plasmas display better in brightly lit rooms.

Up to 46" lcd are far better. Above this some people say plasma have a very slight edge. If you intend gaming on it avoid plasma. The best on the market at present is the Sony Bravia range. many of the big names are stopping production of plasma due to falling sales. plasma have a shorter lifespan & are more expensive to run.

LCD is the better choice as Plasma screens need a recharge after a few years, which will cost money where as the LCD wont cost extra.
LCD has a better picture quality!

LCD for sure, the Sony Bravia range is about the best value. LCD's last longer and use less electricity, picture quality is about the same, but LCD is more reliable.
