Figured the reactions, answers would be such.

It is a valid point.

As a former medic, then psychologist, well the trust all soldiers and marines place in "Doc' is a well earned tradition as combat medics have a very high casualty rate.

The reason the US Army and Marine Corps invest so much to field qualified medics is 100% on the return of the troops trusting that all that can be done will be done for their comrades and if such themselves. I know about a few hundred thousand former "Doc's" that would agree such was an insult to our contributions.

Do soldiers 'think" about getting zapped? yes, more often about getting maimed and such. Everyone knows what the military will do. But for the wounded to be messed over goes after well it is as serious as screwing with the retirement package.

So, I assume that it does hurt recruitment, if not for the youth deciding, their friends, and families must have concerns.

It was a major error by a few "minor" medical muckup's: I had the fate to meet LTG Kiley at Fort Sam, what a patronizing, wanker. His cronies will take a while to be driven back to civilian life. The other aspect of "why" is that youth seldom believe they will end up getting wounded.

Yes, the VA treated me well great but I was like the "lone Ranger" on that at reunions.

A work colleague of mine was seriously injured 7 years ago, and has only just been medically discharged.

The last 7 years the mod has continued to pay him monthly, even though he has not worked a day since, and has gone out of their way to make sure he will be ok. That have also paid for a university course and his military insurance gave him a big fat paycheck.

There was no being discarded there.

Please remember too, you only hear the bad stuff in the news.

You've never heard of the British Legion or the Chelsea Hospital or any of the other organizations that look after ex-servicemen and women, obviously.
They are not discarded and people join the forces for as many different reasons as there are leaves on a tree! The last thing they think about though is being injured as this would undermine their ability to do the job.
Don't knock what you can't or won't do yourself!!!

I am a Sergeant in the British Army, with 12 years experience. I joined the army because I have a strong sense of honour and (rightly or wrongly) had a romantic view of it when I joined at 18.
You are naive if you believe servicemen are 'discarded/ ignored if they become seriously injured'. As well as receiving a war pension, there are also lots of fine organisations such as SAAFA, Royal British Legion, BLESMA, etc that help wounded servicemen.
Lest we forget...

Number one we are not discarded (5 years active duty USAF) and the likely hood of becoming seriously injured well the odds are in your favor. We have been in Iraq for 4 years now and there has been 3000 + deaths and 20,000+ injuries and at any given time there has been over 100,000+ troops in country you do the math. It's just the media likes to focus on the pain and suffering because the war is unpopular in America now

When people join the forces the likelihood of being killed or injured in their duties is pretty low in their concerns.

Pretty much like a driver who exceeds the speed limit has low concern for their safety or likelihood of getting a speed ticket.

Agreed with the previous. I know if i get done in the Army will pay out for me, plus they've got a pretty awesome rehab scheme. Check out the lastest issue of ''Soldier'' mag, the official army publication. Not the greatest read but funnily enough has an article on soldier rehab!

I don't know if anyone will be discarded or ignored unless they want it that way. The reason they join is called patriotism, sense of duty, responsiblity, honor, and for the protection of friends, family and country.

So I have been "discarded" have I? Wow, that is news to me. After my medical discharge and the great benefits VA has for me I never felt "discarded" by anyone, until you posted this idiotic rant, now I feel YOU have discarded our vets...thanks dickwad.
