best way is to get a hanger bar made. Its essentially like the tack-strip used with wall-wall carpet in that it has tons of tacks sticking out to grip the back of the carpet. It would also have a retaining bar for the front to ensure the carpet stays locked on the tacks. The tack bar is mounted to the wall, the carpet placed on and the retaining bar locked in place.

The more commonly used method is a nail in each corner and a couple of more nails along the upper edge to reduce sagging. That will eventually tear out.

Behind the carpet, Frame out the edges with small, thin wooden bars (like when you are doing it on the floor.) use smaller tack nails to hold the wood in place to the studs in the wall, but heavy duty carpet tacks to adhere the carpet to the wood.

This way, you get the effect, without destroying your walls with huge holes. It is easier to Spackle smaller nail holes than those huge fat nail holes.

Don't forget to tack the padding or it will sag in the middle!...

The common way is to use carpet adhesive. Carpets will stretch and sag if you try tacking with nails or using hangers.

You can string the carpet on all four corners and tie it to some wall-based hooks - special hooks are available for the purpose!
