Having an 'IV' inserted for anesthesia is no different that having your blood drawn. The only difference is that the needle comes out, and a soft flexible catheter stays in the vein. It just feels 'weird' or like nothing.
Relax, and don't stress.
Good luck!

They hurt if the person doing it is clumsy or inefficient. The pain is more prolonged than getting blood drawn. If you are really scared, you could make it worse by being tense. Make sure you tell the dentist so they can use some nitrous on you before doing the iv. Take a few really deep breaths, close your eyes and think of the beach or somewhere you like, don't tense. Follow these instructions and it won't be as bad.
Take it from me, I have had 9 operations and had about a hundred iv's cause of infusions of IgG. I am a pro at this!
Last comment, if it is really bad, have them use "freezing" spray on the area before doing it. You might want to call ahead of time and ask if they have this. If they don't, make sure you tell them of the fear so they will be ready with the nitrous.

I hate needles too. They are uncomfortable, but you can usually ask for a small local anesthetic before they put the IV in, and they will usually give it to you. It is a tiny needle (injection) with a numbing agent in it..this needle does not hurt. I always do this, because I am a baby when it comes to IVs too. If you do this, you will barely feel anything. Don't worry, and don't let people scare you. It's not terrible.

It's the same thing basically, it just depends on the medicine going in...some can be warm and tingly, some can burn, some can feel cool. I had my 4 wisdom teeth plus another removed without IV sedation. My Dentist gave me a pill...the only thing I remember is that I heard my dr. singing along to whatever was playing in my headphones...no pain, no memory....I would ask about a pill instead....They gave me one to take an hour before the appt. then one when I arrived...piece of cake!

It's uncomfortable but not excruciating if the person knows what they are doing good luck to you if you get a student or if you have bad veins it should not hurt much more than a blood draw

Pain is relative to what you have to compare it to. I don't really notice shots or needles anymore, but I am 33 and have had many stitches, broken bones and the like. If you are anxious, try looking away, and try not to dwell on the sensations too much, but attempt to look past it.

Yes they hurt, at first but once they put it in you will hardly notice it. trust me I needles to, and i'm diabetic and just last christmas i had to go in and get two IVs in, i also have the pump so i have to change my site ( needle inside my "stummy" ) every three days. I also had three IVs in when i first had diabetes because they kept on taking so much they brok the first on in my arm and had to redue it, so i had one in both arms and one on my hand. I got over it and now I have no problem geting my drawn, every tree months.
Do not be scared.

I agree with what Heather said. Once you realize there is no needle in your arm and it is just a plastic tube you'll be fine.

Tiny sting, when done well. If you have nice groapy veins like me, it's even easier.
