I asked this question before, but I am still not quite sure of the answer. I am on probation in North Carolina for a speeding ticket for a year. A condition is I am not allowed to leave the state. I need to fly to Wisconsin though. In answers to my previous question, people said to get a travel voucher, but my officer's supervisor who doesnt know me is pretty mean and will probably not approve that. I called p.o today and he told me that she might not approve it. So I am wondering if I just go withought telling them, is there anyway that my flight will go on record and they will find out? Or does data like that definitly not make its way into the probation computer database? thanks

in response to the answerer below, yea it was just a speeding ticket, going 50 mph over the limit. They actually said I could have gone to jail for a month, but they were letting me off easy with probation for a year. I was surprised at that too, and quite angry.

You are on probation for a speeding ticket? There HAS to be more to that story.. Knowing what you are on probation for makes it easier to understand if travel is a problem.

Whether you are on Probation for more than what you wish to say, is your privacy. If you are on Probation and they told you the conditions, you can not violate them. The only time you can get it is to apply for a court order to leave NC for a Family Emergency. That means if you have Red Cross contact you and your Probabtion Officer. Other than that, you can request a new P.O., if you feel you are being treated unjust. Just to let you know there is a Database called N.C.I.C (National Crime Information System). They can get your information by full name, DOB, and SSN, inaddition to your Driver's license's number or Car registration.

The question, like many, is one of downside risk. If you ask your P.O. if you can go to WI and she says "no," and you go anyway, it is possible that she will not find out. However, if she does find out, you are probably going to jail. Is the trip to WI worth the risk?

Note that the P.O. is merely an arm of the court. If you think the P.O. is being unreasonable, you can discuss the matter with her supervisor, and ultimately you can return to court to ask the judge to allow the travel. You'd need a pretty good reason for going, however, to convince the judge to disregard the P.O.'s decision.

You were going 50 mph OVER the speed limit? Your story sounds more like a reckless driving conviction and something tells me this isn't all there is to it either. But regardless, ask for the voucher. What have you got to lose? I wouldn't recommend going without permission though.

You can try and go and not get caught, the only down fall is if something happens and you do get caught, then you are in violation of probation, which sucks, it puts you back in court, and in more trouble for a longer period. Just talk to your probation officer, and be nice to her...do not suck up too much. She will probably hate that, Just keep it simple, as to why you need to go and such. I know plenty of people who travel when on probation. Jobs require it and something going on with the family. When you are talking to her just keep in mind all the crap she does have to hear, from everyone all day... You know the pot smoking idiot, who fails a drug test, then swearers it must be the test, because he is clean... yada yada
