First, relax. Air is the safest form of travel in the world. At check-in, get in line. Have all your documents ready; tickets, passports, visas, etc. Check your baggage and put all papers back together in a safe place, with you.
Be prepared for security. It's a PITA, but needs to be done these days.
Go to your gate. This is where you will board the airplane. Listen and look to be sure you are at the right gate, and that your flight is on time.
If you require assistance boarding, let the airline agent at the desk by the gate know. They will help you.
Ask about boarding procedures. Usually, it's First Class and assisted boarding first. Then they call by rows, but not always.
When you board the plane, head right toward your assigned seat, and immediately stow any carry on items. Try to get out of the aisles quickly so other passengers can get to their seats.
Sit down. Passengers in the aisles and not seated cause many delays. The plane cannot depart the gate and take off until all passengers are seated.
Buckle your seat belt. Look around for emergency exits and read the saftey card in the seat pocket in front of you. Most people don't and then they panic if something happens. Don't one of them.
When the plane takes off, the Captain may allow you to move around the cabin. If you must, go ahead, but aisles are narrow and food carts or other passengers can make movement cumbersome.
Don't flop your seat backif the passenger behind you has long legs. You'll feel them in your back and he/she won't be pleased. Try not to grab the seat back in front of you if someone is sitting there, it's very annoying.
On landing, sit down, put the tray table up, buckle your seatbelt and put your seatback to its upright position.
Once on the ground, stay seated until you arrive at the gate. It's safer for you and others.
At the gate, unbuckle your seatbelt, gather your carry on items and de-plane. Normally, the seats in the front get off first. Some people will jam the aisles, don't worry, you can wait for some of them to leave and get off when it's less crowded.
If you enjoyed the flight, say thank you to the flight staff.
Most of all, relax and enjoy the ride. It's an interesting way to see the world.

After check in, you will normally go through the controls and after that through the duty free shops. Keep on mind your departure gate and boarding time (printed on your boarding pass and available on various screens). After boarding, show your boarding pass to the stewardess to help you find your seat (unless there are no specific seat arrangements, and then you can seat wherever you want), arrange your hand luggage in the nearest compartment, sit down and fasten your seatbelt (and keep it fastened). Turn off your mobile for the whole trip and other electronics (i-pod, laptop) for take off and landing.
The feeling in the plane is nothing different than in a car, unless you are unlucky and experience turbulences (then the plane would seem to go up and down and your stomach may move upwards - I hate this). Otherwise it is even less bumpy than travelling on a road. And don't forget if you are only in light summer clothes, to have a jacket handy - for a strange reason it is usually a bit chilly in planes. If you travel for many hours, try to get up a little bit or at least exercise your muscles (arms - legs) - you can find such exercises, normaly on your carrier's homepage or at any other airline.
There is actually a book on the "joy of flying"

air travel is really cool. you always have a weight limit on your check-in baggage. check-in baggage goes underneath the airplane and you only get to handle it at the baggage claim. your carry-on baggage is what you can take on the plane with you. you cannot take liquids over 3 fluid ounces, no weapons, including knives and other sharp objects. at the check-in counter at the airport, you will check your bags in, except the carry-on. you must go through security before entering the plane. your ticket has your seat number. when you enter the plane, you will notice that above the seats are numbers and letters. if the number on you ticket matches the number, you've found your seat. above the seats are little storage compartments called overhead compartments. put your bag in the nearest empty one. your flight attendant will guide you from here. the take offs and landings are the best parts. have a safe trip!

Make sure you get to the airport with plenty of time to check in, go through security, and fine your concourse and gate. Rule of thumb is to allow yourself 2-5 hours before your flight. Call the airport ahead of schedule to see what their wait time is for that specific day.
Make sure you have all your documents with you (picture ID or passport, visa if needed, and ticket). Also make sure that you are not taking any forbidden items with you. (both Indian policy and American policies are included)

Now you are ready for your flight!
When you taxi, you barely feel the plane move at all. At this point the cabin crew will tell you all you need to know about what to do in case of emergencies and such.
When the plane prepares for liftoff, it starts to go really fast down the runway, and then within 45 seconds you are up in the air. Things may seem a little wobbly at first, but that's just because of moving through the different altitudes. Your ears will pop as you climb through the altitudes also. (chewing gum, drinking something, swallowing, or yawning will alleviate the pressure.)
Once you are in the air, things will feel smooth. You will hear the humm of the engines, but that's normal, nothing to worry about. I actually find it relaxing. If there is turbulence, you might feel the plane wobble a little bit, but remember, planes are designed to withstand this, so take a deep breath and try not to think about it.
To entertain yourself:
- Bring along a few book, magazines, puzzles (such as crosswords or Sodoku if you like those).
- Bring along an iPod, MP3 player, or CD player to listen to music.
- A laptop is good to have as you can play games on it, connect to the internet, and get any work done that you may have.
- Try talking to the people next to you. Sometime you will meet some really interesting people, and forge friendships
When you are approaching landing, your ears will pop as you descend through the altitudes (remember: chewing gum, drinking something, swallowing, or yawning will alleviate the pressure). You will feel the plane slow down and the cabin crew will prepare you for landing. When the plane touches down it kind of feels like a short jolt, and then you hear them cut the engines off and the plane slows down pretty fast.
From there, the plane will taxi to either the gate or the designation where a bus will pick you up. You wait for the plane to decompressurize a few moments before they start letting the passengers out. That was your flight.
You next go through customs, and then pick up your luggage. You walk out of the baggage claim area and are in your destination city!
Good luck!

No different than travelling in a car, except for turbulance. That feels like and elevator going down. It's really not that bad. Just get in the plane and find your seat, then fasten your seatbelt, and relax.

You check in your bags and check which gate your aircraft leaves from and go there. When its ready, you'll be called to board and you prsent your ticket to the stewardess who will direct you to your seat. After that, you just relax and enjoy the flight. Pay attention to what any of the staff tell you and you will have nothing to worry about. Also, if you have any questions, just ask. Staff are there to help, they don't bite.
Good luck and enjoy your flight!
