how can I open read only file on a cd-rw to amend details?

You can open read only files. In order to make changes you will need to save it with a new name. Also, you cannot just save back to the cd-rw. You must re-burn a CD-RW in order to save changes.

Depends how you made it read only. At the simplest level using attrib -r from a cmd prompt will get rid of the read-only attribute.

Go to My Computer, select cd drive and you will see the files.
Amend and reburn to disc.
