What I mean is, how old does the kitten have to be to play. Also, how old does it have to be before you can play with it and the mother won't move it?

Thanks!

Week 5:

Kittens will be walking around freely at this time and starting to play with their siblings. They will be developing a new sense of independence, although they may not stray far from their mother or their littermates.
This will be a very good time for their beginning to socialize with humans

If the kitten live with its mother then when the mother starts letting be on it's own which is about 8 weeks old then try to start playing with it.

It depends on the mom. My daughter's cat was bringing the kittens to us at about a week old to show them off. We'd play for a few minutes just rubbing bellies and the such, then the mom would tell us when play time was over. So take your lead from her. By 3 weeks they've got their eyes open and their wits about them, so play is a little more ginger. Just beware of your toes. Kittens are notorious toe pouncers.

Kittens generally start to exhibit play behavior at about five weeks of age. You should be able to play with it at that time. Actually, you should be able to interact with it before that time. It is important for the kitten's development to be handled by people, even long before it is really conscious of what is going on. It is NOT a good sign if mom doesn't allow this.

When the kittens are old enough to walk around on their own is time enough to start playing with them. They can still be nursing the mother.

My vet told me to handle them as soon as the mom cat allows. They dont really get playful for a few more weeks though. My cat let me handle her kittens at a day old but she does keep an eye on them. They are now 8 days old and the eyes just opened. The more you handle (when mom allows), the better.

you should wait for a week or two after the mother cat lets you touch the kitten. once they are steady on their feet, you should be able to play gently.

3-5 weeks, just make sure you see the kitten running around first otherwise don't do anything until you see it playing freely.
