We live in a quiet rural setting, What type of enviroment is best to exercise dogs in, the lanes are quiet and i believe are good for his claws, But i can let him run in the woods?
Which is best for him (he has just had his vaccinations)

You can do either. Neither letting him run in the woods or walk on the lanes are better then the other or will do him any damage. It really all depends on the dog. Some dogs would enjoy going into the woods more, while I have seen some dogs who do not like the woods at all. Also, it will depend on whichever feels better on his paws to him. If it is a nice, dry day than I wouldn't fret about taking him into the woods, but if it was raining and its might be all muddy, the best bet is to take him on the lane so you don't need to do as much grooming and cleaning on him.
As for how long to walk him, it again all depends on how many times you are going to walk him a day and how long he can do it. I know that my dog will go out for 30 minutes to 1 hour on a nice day, and then she'll just lead us home when she gets tired. It also depends on the breed and size of the dog. Generally, small dogs don't need as long walks and bigger dogs. If you are willing to, I'd say bring him out in the morning for 15 minutes and then again in the night for about 30 minutes and then let him run around in your backyard whenever he wants throughout the day. If you do not have a backyard, then he'll need to go out more times and for longer increments then if you do.
I hope I helped.

My dog (Scotch is her name) loves to go for walks anywhere. We'll either get in the car and drive to a park or something, or just walk out our front door and head for town. We live in a smaller town so it's more peaceful to walk in. The roads are excellent for your dogs claws! It'll keep them worn down naturally instead of putting the dog through the sometimes painful ordeal of cutting them. It's great to walk him period. Some people who own dogs can't even do that! You'll bond better and your dog will have something to look forward to.As long as your dog is on a leash with you in the woods..everything should be fine..,and as long as he's not weary of other people..head for town! He'll love all the different smells! Doing anything with the two of you, or the whole family, will make for a happier, healthier, furry, family member. Hope you enjoy your walks together!

Which ever you feel comfortable with. There are pros and cons to both. Just the fact that you are wanting to get out and excerise him shows that you will be a good owner. Many people don't understand how important it is it walk your dog. It not only promotes excerise but also shows that you are dominant. How long you walk him is really up to the dog. I wouldn't start out with like an hour walk but try 15 to 20 minutes. After a while you will be able to judge how long he can go. Just make sure when you return home to give him plenty of water and rest.

Fall, Winter & Spring you should walk your dog on the road. It is good for their nails (it acts like a file and keeps them short). During the summer the pavement can become too hot and burn the pads on their feet so you should walk in the grass. Also, it's safer for you to stay in public areas... walking in the woods by yourself isn't safe.
You should walk your dog atleast a half hour every day, and have active play for a half hour (fetch). Some breeds you will need to exercise more, some less.

We always take our dog to run in the woods. They use up more energy, have more fun, and its better for their feet instead of cement. It depends if its a puppy or what type of dog it is for how long you should walk it. Usualy we take our lab for a run in the woods for 30 mins

both are okay just make sure he is supervised. my dog runs wild in the woods. loves it. but you can walk him on the road keep him on a short leash though. thats why i like the woods. my dog dont use a leash when he is there. just make sure he'll come as soon as you hollar or whistle. if your dog is like mine you dont have to worry aboutit being safe. my golden is very protective. people said that goldens arent guard dogs in any way but i guess if they love you enough they are like any other dog an will protect you. he does. wat kind of dog do you have?
