I guess I don't understand. Why would her dating you have anything to do with rumors being spread by her ex-boyfriend? If she really likes you, and she's really over her ex, then what he says and does shouldn't matter at all.
It sounds like you may be pursuing a girl who is not over her last relationship, and that is a recipe for getting hurt. Be sure not to get too attached too quickly.

Sounds kind of fishy to me. Are you sure there isn't something else going on like maybe she just doesn't want to go out with you and she is making up an excuse. I've done it. I know it sounds mean, but sometimes girls just don't want to hurt anyones feelings.
