My 4 year old daughter grinds her teeth HORRIBLY every night. I can't even sleep b/c I can hear it from the other room. I asked her dentist what to do and she said that it's normal for children to do this b/c they are getting ready to lose their baby teeth (But she's been doing this since she was 3, and will be 5 in June!), I asked another dentist just for a second opinion and she said the same, and also that there are no night time mouth guards for children her age.
Her front teeth are getting so messed up, they look like they are chipped and you can see the enamal going away...my question is:
Is there ANYTHING that I can possibly do?? I don't want her teeth to get even more damaged, and I need some SLEEP!
PLEASE HELP!
(serious answers please)

We had this problem with our (now 12) yr old. He did this until we took him to a sleep center for this and other problems. They changed his entire sleep routine. He has no t.v. or videos for an hour before bed, nothing to eat or drink 2 hours before bed and his wake and sleep routine needs to be the same 7 days a week, (sorry no sleeping in on weekends) and his room is cool (65 degrees) We were told before that it was caused by a form of anxiety that was manifesting at night but that it wasn't harmful. He also had bad dreams, and restless sleep. They found at the sleep study and ENT that he had acid reflux. The changes in diet and routine has helped him sleep better, with no teeth grinding. This is the first time since was three (9yrs) that I haven't heard his teeth grinding at night. I am glad they didn't give us a night guard, because I would never have found out what the underlying cause was.

how is her sleeping habits?
Sometimes we recommend adults who grind there teeth in the sleep to change the evening routine and diet. Softer foods and calm evening might what she needs. Last 40 min before person goes to bed are very important.
Good luck.

Go get a mouth piece made from your dentist if its really bothering you. They can do an impression and make a mouth guar from that. I dont think its that expensive either.
