I have a bird outside of my house that constantly slams himself into our window downstairs. He will do this for hours everyday!! Any ideas why he does this?

Theresa-

You may be right!! :) I just went and checked and we have an old playschool house that has a bright red handle and fixtures on it not too far from the window! I'll cover it up or move it and we shall see if he continues!

Thanks-

It's a Northern Cardinal. He probably sees his reflection in the window and thinks it's a rival male and tries to attack it. Maybe try to put some kind of sticker on the window to break up the reflection. It's the breeding season right now, so it should be the worst right now, but after he finds a mate he might settle down.

I think that you already have answers. But, I'll mention mine.

Birds don't know a clear window...so they inadvertently crash into it...but usually only once. Many become stunned and die. So the best thing to do is place something (shade?) so that the bird sees it.

The bird that continually slams in the window is seeing his reflection. They become very territorial during the mating and breeding season.

Consider placing a fake "OWL" or a fake (stuffed) cat on the ledge of the window or very close. Of course, they may start attacking those things.

Check the room for something bright red. Most likely you have some little decoration or flower print in the room that is bright red that he's mistaking for a rival male.
