How did he come up with that?
...I am not kidding this time...I am going to jam a sharp pencil in my ear.
Faith biblically defined is:The substance of thing hoped for, the "evidence" of things not seen.

I have faith that the sun will come up tomorrow.
I have faith that my car will start when I turn the key.
I have faith that most people will do the right thing.
I do not know that anyone of these statements are not true.
I trust the sun will rise, I trust my car will start, I trust that most people will do the right thing.
To have faith means to trust in the supporting evidence related to the object of ones faith.
In regards to religious faith I think you are making a statement about your concept of "blind faith" which is not biblical faith. You assume that those who accept certain tenets of truth regarding spiritual matters do so without investigating its truth claims. While this may be your own criteria for accepting truth most Christians are smarter than that. All your doing is getting kudos from those dumb enough to join your idiotic foolishness. Good luck with that. I hope you get what you wish for.

Faith is confidence that something is true or someone is telling the truth. But if you know (have evidence) that something is false or someone lied, and you still believe that falsehood or lie -- you're deluded or reckless. Suppose one known to lie says to you, I just walked across this frozen pond and its safe. Then your friend says, "I've been here the whole time that he has been here, and I know he's lying. Don't listen to him, you know better." You do not know for a fact whether the ice will hold you or not without gathering more evidence and safely testing it out. Yet you do know that your friend always tells you the truth and that the other person has lied to you many times before. Will you believe your friend or the liar? In both cases you may believe, and the belief is an act relying on testimony. But in one case the belief is based on honest testimony and in the other case the belief is base on dishonest testimony. This is not a dilemma. You really do know the truth, but will you trust your trusted friend or not?

Hebrews 11:1-40 outline faith and what it means.
1. Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.
2. For by means of this the men of old times had witness borne to them.
3. By faith we perceive that the systems of things were put in order by God’s word, so that what is beheld has come to be out of things that do not appear.

I believe it's a false statement. It seems like the person that said it was very disappointed in life. "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen"

If you really know it was not true - you would not believe it.
There is some doubt or ignorance remaining - otherwise you could not believe what is false.
Of course, if you really understood the truth...faith would be non-existant (you would simply know).

I disagree completely. If you know something is not true, you would not believe in it.
A more accurate definition is: faith is believing in something you cannot prove.

Faith doesn't apply just to religion, so I'd say that the statement is incorrect.

I think we should listen to people when they tell us why they must have faith.
Many say things like "life would be so boring without it" and "I can't imagine a universe without a creator" or "I wouldn't want to live in a universe without a creator".
I don't think there's any reason to doubt their words....they really can't imagine, or don't want to imagine, life any other way.
So, although I agree with your quote, I think many people simply can't or won't agree with it. Atheism is a very, very difficult thing. It's much better to believe that there's somebody bigger, stronger, and wiser who's out there watching over us.

I think that's a dumb statement. It says, "faith is believing the lie", where's the sense in that?
