I am 21, and I am completing my grade 12 high school credits (through distance learning) and trying to receive my diploma this way. The reason I don't go to an adult school is because I volunteer and run a side business with my husband. Please don't tell me "you married too young" and what not, because my question is about school, not marriage. Anyways, I took 2 years off of school when I was 17, and I started taking my courses again when I was 19. I'm going to be 22 soon, and I am not done my courses yet. Some people ask me why it is taking me so long to finish my courses, but the way I see it is, the more I concentrate on my work, the better marks I get, so I would rather do that then rush it, and get lower grades. Even my teachers suggested to me, take your time with your work, you should be in no hurry. I still have about 6 credits to complete. Is it Ok that I am 21 and still doing high school courses?

Personally, I think it speaks volumes about your character that you are finishing your highschool education even though you have established your life. Some people would just say, "I don't need this."
And the fact that you are taking the courses and not sitting for a GED is great, too.
Don't question yourself. If you are within the time guidelines of the program you are using and you are comfortable with the quality of you work, then you are doing a great job.
Kudos to you for doing it YOUR way!

What I wonder is why it matters so much to you what other people think! If you are happy with your life and aren't a burden on society, it really isn't anyone's business what you do with your time. I personally think it's great that you are continuing your education, but remember that learning doesn't stop when you get your diploma. The entire world offers something to learn from, and people should strive to be life-long learners.

Anyway, if you are doing this good, you should consider going to business school after you get your diploma, after all, you are already used to using this time for educational purposes...it shouldn't be a big change to do college courses. Plus you'll get financial aid for it.

My dad did the same thing. He went to World War 2 with an 8th grade education, and then when he came back at your age came back, took classes and got his high school degree. Personally, I'm really proud of him!

My great-grandmother got her high school diploma at the age of 60 or 70. You're doing fine. :) I think it's great at any age!

You obviously have a developed opinion about your situation, so why are you seeking for acceptance? There is nothing wrong with your situation, in fact, I admire you for making a plan and sticking to it.

sure why not. look at it this way. you can't change your past. so just look to the future and tell yourself, I'm not a highschool dropout. I am learning my stuff and getting good grades. It is better for me this way.

Good Luck and I support you!

Do the best that YOU can do. Is it out of the norm for someone your age to be doing highschool work, yes, but who cares.

Good luck

The longer you take to do something the better the chance something will get in the way of finishing it. You should get your diploma as quickly as possible. Not having your diploma is keeping you from getting better jobs and better paycheques..
