I am at school with a computer with word 2003 that says it needs to download a compatibility pack to open my word 2007 document. I ahve no administrative capabilities. Are there are any ways I can open this file... at least for viewing?

Ask the library staff if there is a computer with Word 2007 or if they can download the compatibility file for you.

Vijay is correct - if it is a document that you need to open in Office 2003, Save As - and select an older version of WORD. It is well documented that there are compatibility issues between Office 2003 (and older editions) and Office 2007. Office 2007 is XML-based which means there should be more compatibility in the future, but it is not a smooth transition.

Depending on the contents you might be able to open it with Word 2003 or even notepad, just cancel the update.
