My son is almost 13 and boy is he starting to act like a teenager already! The best punishment for him is to take away what he likes - playing with his friends. We also make him do extra chores while he is stuck in the yard. My other son is more difficult because he does not like to play with other kids outside of school activities, so we take away those activities or take away his books. It just depends on the child and what they value the most. And the amount of time involved depends on the reason why they are being disciplined.

I have a 14 yr. old son and discipline is not the same as when I was a kid. So I've figured out my own little system. Every time a chore isn't done or he's mouthy, etc. I put a $ amount on that. Say he hasn't cleaned his room all weekend, well Sunday night he's coughing up $2.00. Or he's known about a paper for two weeks that's due the next day but hasn't bothered to do any work...$5.00. What he doesn't know is the money is being put away in his savings account, I don't actually keep it. You can't keep cleaning out your kid's rooms when they misbehave, IT DOESN'T WORK. Start charging them cold hard cash, you'll get their attention. I guarantee it.
PS The $ amounts are up to you...I usually go anywhere from a quarter to $3.00, depending on the "offense"

My lil' sister is 13 but close enough. But depending on the situation, it all depends on what u should do! you gotta be more specific on what for. T he children these days are growing up so fast and they think that all of the dangerous stuff is cool. But spankings probably won't do at this age anymore they laugh at that kind of stuff. But if u take something that is valuable to them like their cell phone when they act up or the t.v. privliges, or going out with friends for the weekend. You know, something that means something to them take it away until they can get their act together. If that doesn't work then maybe you should sit down and ask them why are they doing the things that they do so that you can better understand them. And if that doesn't work then thats when you take all of the privliges and everything you just tell them that when they get it together they can have things back slowly but don't let them fool you an start acting better that day give them a few days before u give back privliges and items of value to them(if the behavior improves)

Punishment to fit the crime.
Staying out late means early bedtimes for a period. Untidyness, household chores and dressed for the purpose eg: a plastic pinafore for washing the dishes.
Bad table manners, have the child use a bib until they improve.
Answering back and being ckeeky, never too old for corner time or the naughty step. Or perhaps use of a pacifier.
Childish behaviour, take away 14 year old play things etc. and relace with 4 year old toys.
Boys being nasty to girls, teach them what it is like to be a girl by changing their clothing.
Out of control outdoors, use reins.

Humiliate him infront of his mates in school taking away his respect point by mummying him in school, wiping his face, bringinin his kiddy backed lunch with animal spagetty, and passing around his baby photos showing the girls how small his winki is.
Taking away playstation. Or leaving a hidden camera in his beadroom for when he shakes the sausage then threating to hand it to the girls in his class.
14 year olds dont fear death.
They fear humiliation and loss of respect.

when i was that age, my dad took away from me the one thing i needed and wanted the most, my privacy! He took my bedroom door right off the hinges, and would ground me.

take things away... like...her favorite things. phone or internet or something. I hate it when my parents do that to me but i really do learn not to do whatever i did again!
AND IF ITS A GIRL... dont hide her makeup. if i didnt have my makeup, i would seriously not go to school. like this one time... my contact lens ripped, and i didnt have any extras, so i skipped school becuase i didnt want to wear my ugly glasses. THATS HOW IMPORTANT APPEARANCE IS!
