Christ had great moral and ethical teachings. It is commonly seen that these teachings are excellent guidelines for the ways in which people should or could conduct their daily lives and how they should interact with one another. Christians on the other hand tend to add their own slant to things and do not execute Christ's teachings in the manner in which they were set fourth. The thing I see about Ghandi is the intent behind the behavior. Ghandi, it would appear to me, has a more pure motive in dealing with his fellow man. He is compassionate and TRULY cares for people. Christians are more inherently selfish and only do what Christ teaches because they are supposed to, NOT because they truely love their fellow man.

I doubt whether he spelt it like that, but on the face of it it could appear an accurate statement.
However it is an unfair one. How can an entire group of people be judged like that? Did Ghandi know all Christians? Sincere christians? I wonder what he would think of the millions of Christians who have been (and are being) tortured and killed for their faith? After all if someone is a christian in the true sense of the word they should be like Christ. Admittedly there are many people who call themselves Christian when it suits them to be and have no concept of the real thing.

* Mathama Ganhdi said "I like you're Christ but I do not like you're Christians." What do u make of the qoute? *

I like your faith, however your works are death.

The Bible James 2:26
Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.

Have a pleasant day.

That Christ, his teachings and the kind of man he was is honorable. He as an icon was virtuous, but those who claim to be "Christ-like" calling themselves Christians, do not necessarily portray the same qualities as the iconic and "perfect" Christ. Therefore, Christ is likeable, but Christians cannot claim the same qualities and likability just because they follow Christ's teachings. The icon, the ideal, and the followers of that icon are not the same.

In the version I heard (and I admit I am uncertain of the veracity -- I have heard it was not accurate) he added, "They are so unlike your Christ."

It is a sentiment I can completely get behind.

Christ was a selfless individual, bent on social change, helping the poor and loving ALL people, regardless of their status.

The Christian hierarchy reflects very little of this.

He acknowledged the morality of Christ's teaching but deplored the fact that so many Christians made no effort to follow them.

He could mean a number of things when making this quote. I have to ask myself the question "Is he talking about his interpretation of Christ, or the TRUE Christ of the Bible?" or "Is he talking about TRUE Christians, or people that call themselves Christians, but don't live as Christ taught?"

Christ was a good man...christians are not always very good. Some are very hypocritical. Whereas Christ was most definitely not.

Unfortunately, as a Christian, I feel the same way sometimes. But that is how we are formed as Christians - dealing in love with people that are not overly lovable. That's how God smooths off our "rough edges' by having us constantly bumping up against each other and learning to love.
