There has been some suggestion that magnesium can help migraines. I would avoid caffeine on a regular basis as you may be setting yourself up for rebound headaches. Excedrin has caffeine in it, so frequent use of Excedrin can lead to rebound headaches or 'transformed migraine'. If your migraines typically start in the occipital region and then migrate forward, myofascial release techniques on the upper neck and suboccipital region can be very helpful. They can also be effective for other migraines as well.

There is this peppermint stuff you can get at the health food store, you just sit it in the room you are in, apparently it helps.
Personally, I like to have a cup of coffee whether I'm with a full blown migraine or can just feel one coming on. I've been a chronic migraine sufferer for years, and that is what my Mum (who is a nurse) always gave me. It always helped.

Gabi,
Lots of good advice there. My daughter (8) has migraines and by keeping a journal we have decided stress and fatigue bring them on. You can take an asprin a day to help curb them.
Also a nice dose of motrin and rest helps - you could also try a nice bubble bath with some aroma therapy - salts.
Or a nice steam shower - and try to just lay down.

My mom eats a piece of candy as soon as she feels on coming on. I drink a cup of coffee. It helps some, but Excedrin Migraine combined with sleep is the only thing that really works.

Hot peppers have worked in the past for me; applying pressure in the web between your thumb and index finger also sometimes works.
It really depends on whether your migraine is vascular or muscular/skeletal in nature.

Well there is an old indian remedy but I do not suggest it. They would drill a hole in your head to release the evil spirits. There is also the one where they cut your scalp and spread it open to reveal your skull and then would smear a paste made from certain plants and herbs then sew your scalp back together. The second remedy would supposedly prevent you from ever getting headaches again.

I use a really cold damp wash cloth placed on my forehead and then just close my eyes and relax for 30 minutes.

Coffee. Caffene has some analgesic properties. Note that its addictive and cutting back can cause severe headaches.
