You can say it or believe what you want, but the US government did what it wanted with respect to Viet Nam.
Richard Nixon was elected for his first term claiming he would pull out of Viet Nam. For his second term, he ran the same campaign. Claiming he was close to ending the conflict with dignity. With Kissinger working on the peace initiative for years and Hanoi Jane making love with Ho Chi Min, Nixon did pretty much what he wanted to do.
The opposition to the Viet Nam war was just that...opposition.
My question back to you: With demonstrators killed, marches and protestors very much against the war for the better part of eight years (Johnson, Nixon, Ford eras), Why would you think opposition ended the war?
FYI: Johnson was the only honest president with respect to the war. He left politics rather than deal with our governments war time policy. Also, look at Viet Nam today. They are a capitalistic trading partner and have a lot of democratic values as a result of the United States meddling in their affairs. That's how we have been for two hundred years, we meddle in others affairs and they turn out to be friends. Take a look at Japan, Europe, Russia and S. Korea, just to name a few.
We are a peaceful people with a violent nature. Opposition to Iraq won't change our century old policy of thinking we are the worlds police. Rather, opposition to our existing government and the wall flowers and dinasours that run it would be a better target!

The opposition did not 'end' the Vietnam war. The opposition merely allowed North Vietnam to violate the peace treaty they signed in 1972 so they could invade an conquer S. Vietnam.
The 'left' does not want you to know this but: South Vietnam was invaded and conquered by N. Vietnam in contravention to not only the peace treaty they signed - but to the Nuremberg doctrine prohibiting war for conquest.
The only thing the 'peace protesters' achieved was the death of millions of people.

I do agree that the opposition caused the pull out from Vietnam and indirectly the resulting genocide of 100,000's of Cambodians.
The certainly did not "end" the war. The war went on after the US left.

The war ended because the North Vietnamese could not be militarily defeated, period. To try and blame our defeat on domestic "opposition" to the war, as many have done is just foolery. We were trying to defeat an enemy in their own country, who utilized guerrilla tactics and refused to surrender, despite the most intensive bombing campaigns in the history of the world.
The whole premise for our involvement in the war was that if Vietnam went communist, it would result in communism sweeping through Asia and would represent a security threat to the U.S.
Well, Vietnam did go communist, and 20 years later, we normalized relations. The remainder of Asia did not go communist. We could have stayed in Vietnam until 1987 and lost another 50,000 troops, it wouldn't have made any difference.

Opossition did stop the Vietman war
Of course the cons will say it was Nixon that stopped the war, but all he did was implement a democratic resolution, as
The negotiations that led to the accord began in 1968.
