The pup has seen 2 Vets and they are perplexed.2 skin scrapings showed NO mites (mange),but we treated with the Revolution anyways.Strangles usually presents with enlarged lymph nodes and hers are not. The meds are for fungus and underlying infection, but negative ringworm culture.Anyone with info on lupus? yeast? zinc deficiency? hormone problems? The pup WAS born with a deformity at the end of her tail, so possibly she has internal deformities also causing her skin condition. She is prefectly normal acting. More comments are appreciated. Thank you

Try epidermal dysplasia, it affects primarily very young dogs. Its otherwise known as armadillo syndrome. It affects the ventral part of the body first. The skin where the fur is gone developes a black pigmentation, scaly appearance and smells. This was the most extreme answer i could find. It could be mange but i dont think mange would affect a dog so young unless the dog is very sick. Obviously you have already taken the dog to the vet, which some people fail to have noticed or you wouldnt have the medication for the dog. Vets can take a while to diagnose a problem and if they arent familiar or are uneducated on a disease it will take longer still. I hate to say it and i am kicking myself right now but you may have to have the pup euthanased. Its hard enough to rehome a dog these days without the worry of finding a possibly sick dog a loving home. Trust me i know, I also foster dogs, large cross breeds and pure breds. Its heart breaking but you may need to make that decision.

It appears that you are trying to treat it yourself. You might take the puppy to the vet. The vet can give you something that will work on the puppy. Plus you'll know what it is the next time you have a puppy like that and you will also know what to do. If you need a specific med, you can always get it from the vet without taking the next puppy in. This is providing you have a good working relationship with your vet.

Pup might have some sort of mange or allergies. Sounds like the pup needs to see a vet or get a second opinion.

Have you gone to the vet? This sounds like some sort of upper respitory problem. It's really weird for a one week old puppy to get a skin irritation. My heart goes out to you. Good Luck.

It sounds like Puppy Strangles. Has this been ruled out? One of my coworkers fostered a pup who had Strangles, and I don't think his (the pup, not the coworker!) nodes were enlarged.

Since you're fostering, call the shelter and let their vet take a look. It's probably self-inflicted, but find out for sure.
