It depends on the reason you criminal record is being checked; most employers go back at least 7, sometimes 10.
Some jobs (law enforcement, banking, securities, etc. will search your entire record and you will automatically be disqualified for any felony convictions)
The police will have access your entire criminal record, even a sealed or expunged record (even though they cannot use that against you in Court).

It depends on the State that you live in...Some states go back 7 years, some like Conn are forever. No time limit.
Also it depends on the job you are trying to get too..To be a cop or any law enforcement, then all the way back. Go into FBI , then your whole life. Agents go to your old neighbor hood and ask your teachers about your Chartatcer.

probabley depends what crime it is. some crimes show up to 5 years but like I said probabley depends.
