Personally, I would wait until you are going to make a new computer purchase before making a descision to migrate from a previous version of Windows on an older computer system. This is a new program, and, it is still in its infancy, and still has more problems associated with it despite the techie and sales hype at thsi time. I would wait it out a few more months when their software engineers work out the kinks in it before buying.
Besides, you will need at least 1 GB of RAM to get it to run properly despite the minimum requirements, and if you expect it to be a workhorse, you will need 2GB of RAM for gaming, and more robust applications.

Windows Vista is Microsoft's new operating system. An operating system (or OS) is the basic software for your computer. It does all of the essential things- interfaces with your keyboard, mouse, and monitor; supports other programs; et cetera. If you have a recent computer, your OS is probably Windows XP, or if you have a Mac, Mac OS X.
You don't need to worry about buying Vista right now, as it is a new software and is full of glitches. There aren't any Vista-specific technologies, games, or anything, so it's not essential. In a couple years, however, it will be worth installing.
